1. Who we are

Arabic Through the Quran is operated by QURANBOUND LTD, trading as QuranBound, registered in England and Wales under company number 15997559, with its registered office at Suite G04, 1 Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London, WC2A 1HR. We are the data controller for the personal data described here.

For anything in this policy, including any request about your data, write to team@quranbound.com.

2. What we collect

Account details, which you give us when you sign up:

  • Your email address, which we use to identify your account.
  • Your name and username, if you provide them.
  • Your profile photo, if you set one.

Optional profile details, which you can choose to give during onboarding or leave blank:

  • Phone number.
  • Gender.
  • Age range.

Learning data, created as you use the platform:

  • Which lessons, sections, and terms you have completed.
  • Quiz attempts and scores.
  • Vocabulary cards, review history, and study sessions.
  • Messages you send to the AI tutor.
  • Audio from your microphone, but only while you are using a speaking or dialogue activity.
  • Recordings of live classes, where your programme includes them. Your name, voice, or camera may appear if you take part. If you would rather not appear, keep your camera off and tell us.

Technical data, collected automatically:

  • Pages you visit on the site and when you leave them.
  • Standard information your browser sends, such as device type and approximate location derived from your IP address.

We do not collect card numbers. Payments are handled by our payment provider, and card details never reach our servers.

3. Why we use it, and our lawful basis

  • To deliver the programme you paid for. Running your account, unlocking lessons, saving progress, and providing support. Our lawful basis is performance of our contract with you.
  • To operate the AI tutor and speaking practice. Your messages and, in speaking activities, your recorded audio are sent to the suppliers described below so they can generate a response or a transcript. Our lawful basis is performance of our contract with you.
  • To understand how the site is used. Aggregate analytics that tell us which pages people read and where they leave. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in improving the product.
  • To take payment. Our lawful basis is performance of our contract with you, and our legal obligation to keep financial records.
  • To let students catch up on live classes. Where a programme includes live sessions, recordings are made available to enrolled students. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running the programme for everyone on it.
  • Marketing examples and testimonials. We use your name, image, or words in our marketing only if you have agreed to it. Our lawful basis is your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time.
  • Optional profile details. Where you choose to give them, our lawful basis is your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time.

4. Who else processes your data

We use a small number of specialist suppliers to run the platform. Each of them processes personal data only on our instructions, only for the purpose given, and under a written contract.

  • Accounts and sign in. An identity provider that manages your login and keeps your session secure.
  • Hosting and storage. Cloud providers that run the website and hold your account, progress, and any files you upload.
  • Payments. A payment provider that handles subscriptions and takes payment.
  • AI features. Language model providers that generate the AI tutor's replies, and a speech to text provider that transcribes speaking activities.
  • Analytics. A product analytics provider that tells us how the site is used.

If you would like to know which specific companies we use, write to team@quranbound.com and we will tell you.

Some of these suppliers are based outside the UK. Where personal data is transferred abroad, it is protected by the safeguards UK data protection law requires, such as the International Data Transfer Agreement or an adequacy decision.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for advertising.

5. How the AI tutor uses what you send it

When you send a message to the AI tutor, that message and the relevant course context are sent to a third party language model provider so a reply can be generated. When you use a speaking activity, the audio your microphone captures is sent to a third party provider to be transcribed.

We keep your tutor conversations so you can return to them and so we can investigate problems. If you would rather they were removed, ask us and we will delete them.

6. Cookies

We use cookies that are strictly necessary to keep you signed in and to keep your session secure. These cannot be turned off without breaking sign in.

We also use analytics cookies to count page views and understand how far people read. These are not necessary for the site to work.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your account and learning data for as long as your account is open, so that your progress is there when you come back. If you ask us to close your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, apart from records we are required to keep for longer, such as payment records for tax purposes.

8. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct anything that is wrong.
  • Ask us to delete your data.
  • Ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to us using it.
  • Ask for your data in a portable format.
  • Withdraw consent, where consent is what we relied on.

Write to team@quranbound.com and we will respond within one month.

If you are not happy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.

9. Children

You must be 16 or over to hold an account in your own name. If the student is under 16, a parent or guardian sets up and holds the account, agrees to this policy on their behalf, and stays responsible for it. The learning data described in this policy is then the student's, held on the account the parent or guardian controls.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal data, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Where a change materially affects you, we will tell you by email.
